My POV Sorrento: What is Pizza a Vico?
Pizza a Vico is one of the most loved food festivals on the Sorrento Coast, held every year in the main square of Vico Equense. From September 16 to 18, the town came alive with music, games, street performances, and, above all, the unmistakable flavor of traditional Neapolitan pizza. The atmosphere was one of joy and community: families, friends, and neighbors all came together to celebrate good food and local culture.
Pizza a Vico: 31 Pizzerias, One Tradition
The heart of the festival is, of course, the pizza. This year, 31 pizzerias from Vico Equense and the Sorrento Peninsula took part, each offering their version of the classic Margherita pizza along with a specialty pizza inspired by local ingredients. Among the most famous names was Pizzeria Da Franco, known throughout the area. Visitors also enjoyed sweet treats from eight pastry stands, with local desserts paired perfectly with wine and craft beer.
Beyond Pizza: Games and Entertainment
Pizza a Vico is not just about food—it’s also about fun for all ages. The streets filled with games like Connect Four and Battle Beam, circus performers on stilts, and magicians entertaining children and adults alike. Kids had their own special area with tricycles and a pizza-making experience where they could become little pizzaioli for a day.
Tickets and Experiences
The festival offered a main ticket for €20, which included two Margherita pizzas, two special pizzas, one beer, one water, and a dessert. For those wanting to get hands-on, there was also the chance to cook alongside professional pizzaioli, while a reduced ticket of €10 was available for lighter tastings.
